The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Alexander Innovation Zone and sixteen (16) research entities and agencies supporting innovative entrepreneurship in Thessaloniki (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Macedonia, Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, International Hellenic University, CERTH, ELGO Dimitra, Hellenic Institute of Metrology/National Quality Infrastructure System, Technopolis, i4G Incubator, Thermi Incubator, Thessaloniki Technology Park / Management & Development Corporation, Association of Information Technology Companies of Northern Greece, Greek International Business Association, Greek-Turkish Chamber of Northern Greece, the American Farm School and the Technical Chamber of Greece, City of Thessaloniki, Turism Services of Thessaloniki, Consulate of Esthonia 0f Northern Greece) is a new beginning in Thessaloniki’s efforts to transform itself into a centre of innovation and entrepreneurship in the wider area of Southeast Europe.
Thessaloniki has a high concentration of educational, research and technological-entrepreneurial units and infrastructures, which gives the city a competitive advantage. The Memorandum confirms the intention of all entities to join forces under the umbrella of A.I.Z. in order to achieve the vision of turning Thessaloniki and the wider area into a centre for innovation and entrepreneurship with international reach.
Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, A.I.Z. is now focusing its efforts on:
its branding at the international level
the targeted connection of research to entrepreneurship (clustering) in areas where there is a critical mass of researchers and businesses
the creation of a new flow of commencement of innovative businesses
better use and/or creation of new financing/support tools for businesses that convert research results into products that can be sold on the international market.
